It's shower pan liner, 40 MIL PVC, made by Oatey. Comes in big sheets just like marley.
Can be double sided taped down, and duct taped together. It works quite well at a fraction of the cost.
I believe that hardware/plumbing stores carry it. 159 Replies to Cheap dance flooring- I FOUND IT! |

I JUST BOUGHT $2,000 worth of flooring! I still have lots of floor to cover, I would love to know what the cost of this is, and like the others, what it looks like. I have tried to search it, but haven't found anything online about it! |

Ooh, don't dance on concrete, even with cover! That would be the worst thing for the dancers!!!! |

Its very close to marley and does dance the same according to a few other dance teachers I know that are using it. It provides the same non-slip surface at a fraction of the cost. The cost for this is about $2 a square foot, which is definately a deal when flooring a studio. It's quite thick. I have a small sample that someone gave to me, and if you didn't see that it was showerpan liner by the labelling on the back, you wouldn't know it wasn't dance flooring.
Sidenote: I've been dancing on concrete for 23 years, we just recently got wood floors in, and they are killing me. I want my concrete back. Anyone else have no issues with concrete or am I a wierdo? Maybe just me, I have less stability on the wood than on the concrete.
I know quite a few dance studios that are using dance flooring over concrete only, I don't know if I would go that route. The key to a good floor is having it spung enough to offer some give, but not overly sprung as you loose some stability. |

If I dance on unsprung floors I have pain in my knees and lower back.
You are the exception Llama Llama Duck. Its really not recommended. |

Oh, another cheap floor covering is rubber roofing material.
It comes in a 50'x10' roll for about $150.00
The company that I got it from was called Wimsatt. You can find it in the yellow pages under 'roofing materials' ask them for the commercial industrial rubber roof.
Karizma, that would be great for you. I layed a subfloor and the roof material over it, and love it. |

I don't have sprung floors but the building I have has wood floors with natural spring. Not as much as sprung floors but the kids who also dance on sprung floors at their performing arts high school or in college say they can't feel a difference. I lucked out for that! I have Marley over it and right now don't need any but I want to keep this in mind for future.
I truly want to get Time-Step, the taps sound better on there. |

My SO put timestep in this year and I don't like it. I'd rather the thicker marley for jazz or modern, and floating wood for tap. The timestep covering muffles the tap sounds and turns your taps black, and for jazz, it seems to have some movement, especially in my calves stretches and downward dog.
I danced on polyurathane covered floating wood floors for years, and don't consider contrete a safe flooring for dance. I wouldn't do it as part of my business - I don't want to hurt others, myself, or be part of any litigation or liability suit. If you are the business owner and have concrete floors, I would strongly recommend you look at better flooring alternatives. |

I have Time Step in one room, over the wood floor (bought it used) and although it does not sound as good as on the wood, it is better than the other marley we have. I need one that is good for all forms since we use all the rooms for all classes. |

It's the black floor that is in my little gym area. We don't usually use it to dance on, but we can, and we have had some tap classes in there before.
It's fine, I love it. We also roll it up, and take it to performances to use as a stage. |

Tap shoes would still ruin this flooring wouldn't it?
I love having marley flooring but Im only going to have 2 studio rooms when i open this fall and im concerned that obviously tapping will ruin it. |

Tap has not ruined my regular marley floor so if it is the same material, I don't think it would be a problem. |
